Social Pediatrician, Clinical Director, Founding President, Fondation du Dr Julien
Physician, clinician and researcher, Dr. Gilles Julien has always been driven by an unrelenting passion to advance the cause of children in vulnerable situations wherever he’s been, in Quebec and elsewhere in the world. Throughout his career, he has applied the principles of social responsibility in medicine through his various roles and the innovations he implemented. He has received some of the most prestigious awards, such as the Gold Medal of the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, the Ordre du Québec, the Order of Canada and an Ashoka Fellowship.
The innovative approach he developed with Ms. Hélène (Sioui) Trudel, community social pediatrics, helped revolutionize the methods of intervention with children in very vulnerable situations and their families. It brings together the necessary people (parents, health professionals, social workers, teachers etc.) in order to meet children’s needs in the most efficient way possible while ensuring that their fundamental rights are protected. This approach, which is based on acceptance, listening and respect, represents Dr. Gilles Julien’s values and explains much of the success of the multidisciplinary approach he implemented.
Thanks to his international expertise, Dr. Julien has garnered considerable recognition and respect and is highly sought after for his views on childhood-related issues. The support he recently received from the Government of Quebec to further develop the community social pediatrics approach throughout Quebec illustrates the impact he continues to have today on fighting child vulnerability in Quebec and elsewhere in the world.
