Bâtonnière du Québec
Since her admission to the bar in 1990, Bâtonnière Claudia P. Prémont, Ad. E., has focused her practice on family law, personal law and estate law. She has practised with firms of different sizes during her career, which led to her partnership with Brodeur Prémont Lavoie avocats Inc. in 2009.
Through the years, she has gained extensive knowledge in matrimonial and estate disputes, appearing regularly before the courts. Bâtonnière Prémont also developed solid negotiating skills, received training in collaborative law and is an accredited mediator.
Member of the Barreau’s General Council from 2001 to 2008, she became President of the Quebec City Bar in 2007-2008 and the Board of Directors’ administrator for the Québec City area in June 2015. In her capacity as Bâtonnière du Québec since September 2015, she has general oversight of the Barreau’s affairs and fulfills all duties relating to her office, including implementing strategies and mechanisms aimed at developing a new judicial culture to support the coming into force of the new Code of Civil Procedure.
During her career, Bâtonnière Prémont was active in many of the Barreau’s committees as chair of the Committee on Women in the Profession, member of the Committee on Applications and member of the Committee on Private Practice Issues, among others.
She was president of the provincial Family Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association until June 2010, as well as lecturer in family law at Laval University and head of collaborative law workshops at the École du Barreau in 2008 and 2009. Among her other functions, she was also lecturer and trainer for Québec Superior Court and Québec Court judges, as well as for family and public law practitioners. She is the author and co-author of many family law articles and papers.
Bâtonnière Prémont is active in the community. As YWCA volunteer in Québec City, she provided legal advice in family law, personal law and estate law. She was also a member of the Board of the Signes d’espoir Foundation.
Bâtonnière Claudia Prémont was awarded the distinction of Lawyer Emeritus by the Barreau du Québec in 2010 and was among the finalists at the YWCA Women of Distinction Gala, in the Business and Professions category, in May 2011.
